Riding Cassie

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Yesterday Mike and I rode Cassie for the first time. Between the screwy weather we’ve had this summer and just being plain busy, it’s taken me a while! I think it’s been good for Cassie to have down-time, though, to settle and and start feeling like this is her home.

This week the weather is supposed to be much nicer. I’m hoping to get my trail in the woods extended to the other horse trails behind my property. It’s pretty close, but I just need to get out there with a chain saw and trimmers to finish it up.

Here are some pictures we snapped.  (Sorry for the blurriness–the sun was starting to set.)   I rode Cassie first. I rode her across the creek and back to the field, and she was a good girl. I walked and trotted her around out there a bit, then Mike hopped on and we rode her double. Mike was feeling confident, and Cassie was listening well, so I hopped back down and let him walk her around by himself. She tried to go where she wanted to in the beginning, which I had expected her to do, but Mike did a good job of making her go where he wanted her to go and they got along great after that. I was impressed, as he has only ridden a handful of times.

We rode around the paddock at the end of the ride so we could snap some pictures for Kristie:

Then I got back on for a few minutes.  Doesn’t Cassie look pretty under saddle?  I thought about riding her bareback, but thought I’d get my riding legs back first!

Luckily, the bridle I bought for Paige that didn’t fit her fits Cassie.  Barely, though–I need to punch another hole in the cheek strap.

Still Alive!

Published by admin under Uncategorized

We’re still here and kicking, busy as ever! Last week we had some excitement when a large quantity of rain caused a huge old cottonwood tree trunk to float down to my creek crossing and proceed to cause havoc down there. It was a pretty big mess to clean up.

My photographically inclined friend took some beautiful photos a couple days ago…

Gorgeous photos of Cassie and Paige:

Here is part of the trunk of the tree after we pulled it out of the creek and cut it up–it’s huge!

My garden tractor and manure wagon, which have made life much easier for me:

She went and rolled in the dirt after her bath, so she consequently got a second one:
