Cassie got her feet trimmed Tuesday evening. I was going to take some pictures, but it’s a muddy mess outside. I’ll have to wait until things freeze up or dry up to show off her manicure.
I used a new blacksmith and was very happy with him. He had a calm manner with the horses, and he knows about the PMU mares and offered to work with Paige without being asked. I explained to him where she was in her training as far as giving her feet, and he said next time he comes out we’ll get her out and fiddle with her some to start getting her used to him and his tools. In the meantime I’m going to start up her training again, seeing as how she’s had pretty much the whole fall and winter off. Egads, though, this mud!!

I’ve deprived everyone of pictures of the Big Lovely Girls for too long, so here are some I took this evening. The sun was shining and it’s quite chilly outside again. BUT the days are getting longer! And we had some warm weather about a week ago that is dangling Spring in front of our noses!
They were waiting for me to feed them, but I wanted to get the pictures first because there would be no getting their nose out of the hay once they had it!
Cassie spends much of her time with her ears back. She’s a very sweet horse, but I don’t think she likes being bossed around by Paige. You see, she’s been the Boss Mare her whole life, so I hear, so I don’t think this new role quite suits her. Getting her to put them forward for a picture can be tricky.
Paige is pretty fat right now because I had to increase their feed to get weight on Cassie when winter set in. When I get a second stall it will be easier for me to feed them separately. Right now they both go for each other’s feed bucket, so they get the same rations.
