Big News

Published by admin under Uncategorized

I have not written to this blog for awhile because there have been some major developments going on.  My husband and I each have a house with acreage, and we have been talking about selling them both and starting over with a new place together.  We hadn’t come to any decisions, but were keeping our eyes open and also considering buying land to build on.

Well…

Last month a place around the corner from where we live now went on the market.  It is pretty darn close to exactly what we had in our mind as our ideal, and when we went to look at it we fell in love with it.  I know you are not supposed to do that in real estate, but we just couldn’t help ourselves.  Our minds were promptly made up–we were going to go for it!  We very quickly got one of our houses on the market (the other is following very soon), and the owners of the house we wanted to buy accepted our offer, contingent on our house selling.

About a week ago we almost got bumped from the contract by another offer on the house, but we got VERY lucky and got a reasonable offer on our house just in the nick of time.  I can’t even tell you what a roller coaster ride those 48 hours were, but we feel very, very fortunate not to have lost it.  Since inspections are mostly done and we are right on schedule to close in two weeks, I feel a little more comfortable posting about it now.  Fingers crossed for smooth sailing from here on out!

We won’t be able to move in until 30 days after closing, so we will be staying at my husband’s house for about 3 weeks.  My mother has graciously offered to keep the horses during that time.  It is not ideal to move twice, obviously, but it was the only way we could make this work and it will be well worth it in the end.

So what is this new place like?  It has 20 acres, a ranch style house that was converted from a Holstein cattle barn, a nice big pole barn for my husband and his boy toys, a small horse stable that consists of a large run-in stall on one side and an enclosed feed/tack room on the other side, 4 acres of fenced pasture connected to the stable, a nice spring-fed pond, and 10 of the acres are currently hay fields that are share cropped.  It is not wooded, but there are a number of mature trees all around the property.  It really is a beautiful place.  I don’t have any pictures to show, but you can believe that as soon as I do I will share!
