About Paige
This blog is dedicated to my mare, Paige, whom I adopted in December of 2007. She is a former PMU mare from a ranch in Canada. The rancher was forced to go out of business due to the decline in the Premarin industry, and he was working with The Animali Farm horse rescue to try and find homes for his horses before their time ran out. Many of these horses are being sold at auctions, which ultimately lead to the horse meat market.
Paige was born in 2000 to a red roan Belgian draft mare and a black Morgan stallion. She stood on the “pee-line” for a couple years and has been living out to pasture for the last 2 years. She has had several foals. I thought she was pregnant when I adopted her, since she was with a Quarter Horse stallion during the summer. Miraculously, she ended up not being pregnant when I got her and had her vet-checked. While having a foal would have been a neat experience, it’s really better this way.
Paige is halter-broke, but that is all. I am attempting to train her myself. I would like to ride her on trails, and maybe some dressage and jumping if she takes to it. This is my first green horse, so we are taking things slowly and deliberately.
I have been keeping a chronicle of our journey together over the past couple months on an online forum, and I have decided to migrate it to a blog. I will post my journal entries from that time period to get it going, then I will continue to add to it.
Cheers,
Carolyn
She is so beautiful, just like her owner!
Glad to see that Paige is enjoying the cool weather and the long walks you are doing together. Thank you for letting us enjoy your day to day live with Paige.
Hi Carolyn. I read Paige’s blog and really enjoyed it. I adopted Paige’s old friend and herdmate Natty, who should be arriving in about a week, and I’m looking forward to getting to know her even more after reading about your experiences with Paige. Thank you for keeping this blog! I’m sure it will inspire more people to adopt PMU horses.
